Your Shopify Store Now Sells Inside ChatGPT Conversations

Jūsų Shopify parduotuvė dabar parduoda tiesiog ChatGPT pokalbyje

For the past few years, everyone has been talking about AI - but for e-commerce store owners, the real question has always been the same: will ChatGPT and similar tools actually drive sales? In late March 2026, Shopify gave a clear answer - and it's already working.

"Agentic Storefronts" is a new Shopify feature that makes your products discoverable directly inside ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Microsoft Copilot, and Gemini. And most importantly: this feature is enabled by default. Your store is most likely already visible.

How does it work?

When a user asks ChatGPT "what running shoes do you recommend?" or "where can I buy organic baby clothing?" - the AI model can surface specific products from Shopify stores, right inside the conversation.

The purchase doesn't happen inside ChatGPT - the buyer is directed to your store's checkout. That means you keep the full payment process, customer data, and purchase history on your side.

According to Shopify, AI-driven traffic to Shopify stores has grown 7x since January 2025. This isn't a future trend - it's happening right now.

Which AI platforms are supported?

Shopify Agentic Storefronts currently work with:

  • ChatGPT (OpenAI) - the world's largest AI assistant
  • Microsoft Copilot - integrated into Windows and the Edge browser
  • Google AI Mode - AI-powered answers in Google Search
  • Gemini (Google) - Google's AI assistant platform

The feature launched first in the US market (March 24, 2026), with other markets planned to follow.

What should you do now?

The first step is making sure your store is properly set up so that AI models can correctly identify and surface your products:

  1. Product descriptions - are they clear, informative, and do they answer the questions people ask AI? Short descriptions like "blue dress, size L" perform poorly. "Lightweight summer dress in natural cotton, suitable for everyday wear" works much better.
  2. Product metadata - title, description, category, and attributes should all be filled in accurately.
  3. Store speed and technical health - AI channels favor stores that load fast and are error-free.
  4. Product photography - high-quality images increase conversions when a buyer lands on your store from an AI conversation.

Does this replace SEO?

Not entirely - it complements it. Traditional Google search is still important, but AI search operates on different logic: structured data, clear product descriptions, and trustworthiness (reviews, ratings) matter more. The best investment right now is a clean product structure that works for both Google and AI channels.

Agentic Storefronts is a new sales channel - and it's automatically enabled for every Shopify store.
